Tinton Falls Mayor Vito Perillo Dies at age 100

The two-term mayor of Tinton Falls, and the person who put Tinton Falls on the national stage by being the oldest mayor in the country, twice, passed away on Saturday. Serving since 2018, nobody could ever doubt his commitment to our town and to public service. They truly don't make them like that anymore.

Rest in peace Mr. Mayor, and thank you for your service.

Monmouth Democratic Convention Results

Did you guys stay up late watching the convention?
Don't worry, nobody did. It ended at 4PM.
This past Saturday was the 2025 Monmouth County Democratic Convention where delegates from every town in the county voted to select the candidates we'd be endorsing in the upcoming June primary election.

In the past, the results of this mattered a lot because endorsed candidates got preferential ballot positions in the primary. In theory, that practice has been ended, at least we sure hope it has, so the endorsement won't have the same power it used to, but it will definitely still matter.
If you read the earlier newsletters, you know that the only contested race at the convention was for the Governor's office. There are six Democrats running for that office, however, only four of them participated in the race at the convention. Oh wait, make that three, since Josh Gottheimer withdrew from the convention at the last minute. You know we'll be talking about that on Tuesday.

Convention Voting Results for Governor:
-
Mikie Sherrill - 338 votes - 73%
-
Ras Baraka - 96 votes - 21%
-
Sean Spiller - 30 votes - 6%
-
Josh Gottheimer - Withdrew last minute
-
Steve Fulop - Did not participate
-
Steve Sweeney - Did not participate

That's a pretty good turnout and a pretty big win for Mikie.

Of course, the real race is in June when all six candidates will be on the ballot, but this certainly was an interesting race.

Other uncontested races at the convention:
State Assembly:
Running for state assembly in our Legislative District 11 are our two fantastic incumbent representatives:
-
Margie Donlon
-
Luanne Peterpaul

State Democratic Committee:
At this convention, we also elected eight members to the state Democratic committee. This race was uncontested, with eight candidates running for the eight seats:
-
Greg Cannon
-
Steve Clayton
-
Mary Foster
-
Erin Howard
-
Ava Johnson
-
Kevin Kane
-
Bob Salman
-
Tricia Maguire
